SIMFEROPOL, October 7 (RIA Novosti) - Two people suspected of involvement in the murder of the mayor of a south Russian city last year have been detained by Russian border guards after they were deported from Ukraine, police said on Wednesday.
Vitaly Karayev, the mayor of North Ossetian capital of Vladikavkaz, was shot by an unknown gunman as he got into his car outside his house last November. Although he was rushed to hospital by his bodyguards, he died of a bullet wound to the heart.
The Ukrainian Interior Ministry said Taimuraz Gagloyev and Robert Tabuyev were detained in the resort city of Crimea after they had illegally lived there for five months. As the men were not on the international wanted list, the Ukrainian authorities decided to deport them to Russia, where they were immediately apprehended by Russian border guards.
"The Interior Ministry's department in Crimea notified the Russian Interior Ministry [of the suspects' deportation] in advance," a spokesman said.
