CAIRO, October 11 (RIA Novosti) - Egyptian police have seized 750 kilograms of explosives, which they believe were intended to be smuggled to Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip, sources in the Egyptian Interior Ministry said on Sunday.
The police found the explosives, which were packed in plastic bags, in the north of the Sinai peninsula, the sources said.
Underground tunnels provide the Gaza Strip, blockaded by Israel since the radical Islamic group Hamas took control of the enclave in 2007, with food, petrol and household appliances. They are also used for weapons smuggling.
Egypt and Israel have taken active measures to destroy the tunnels. However, the smuggling of weapons into Gaza has not decreased.
