MOSCOW, October 28 (RIA Novosti) - Afghanistan special task forces have assumed full control over a UN hotel in Kabul seized earlier by terrorists, a RIA Novosti correspondent said.
One of the special task police officers, who took part in the operation to free the hotel, said that at least seven terrorists participated in the attack.
They killed two guards as they attacked the hotel and later one of the suicide bombers set off his jacket with explosives, while another militant was killed in a shootout.
The rest of the militants were captured, he added.
He said the special operation at the UN hotel has been completed and the shooting has stooped.
According to preliminary information, the source said, there were four foreign mercenaries, who attacked the facility.
Violence has surged in Afghanistan in recent months, with the radical Islamic Taliban group, which was toppled in a 2001 US-led campaign, staging regular attacks on provincial government officials, police and civilians and planting roadside devices as part of the battle with US and NATO troops.
