Russia has donated Nicaragua two cargo containers with medicine.

MEXICO, October 31 (RIA Novosti) - Russia has donated Nicaragua two cargo containers with medicine, Nicaraguan media reported on Saturday.

Prensa Latina news agency said citing data from the country's Health Ministry that the total weight of the donated medicine totals some 23 metric tons and it is mostly intended for treating acute respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

Speaking at the donation ceremony on Friday, Russian Ambassador to Nicaragua Igor Kondrashev said that Russia intends to provide further all-embracing assistance to this Central American country.

"Russia has been and will be cooperating with Nicaragua. Our assistance is not determined by any [particular] conditions and is based on principles of non-interference in the country's domestic affairs," he said.

Bilateral ties between the countries got a boost last year when Nicaragua became the only country to join Russia in recognizing the independence of the former Georgian republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

In July this year Russia and Nicaragua signed a deal to introduce visa-free travel regime for their citizens as well as a memorandum of understanding between Nicaragua's Petronic and a consortium of Russian oil companies on cooperation on oil and energy projects.
