WHO says A/H1N1 vaccines safe, have no adverse reaction

The World Health Organization said that vaccines against swine flu (A/H1N1), that swept worldwide, are safe for people and have no adverse reaction.

MOSCOW, October 31 (RIA Novosti) - The World Health Organization said that vaccines against swine flu (A/H1N1), that swept worldwide, are safe for people and have no adverse reaction.

"The experts reviewed early results from the monitoring of people who have received pandemic vaccines and found no indication of unusual adverse reactions... Although early results are reassuring, monitoring for adverse events should continue," the WHO said in a statement.

The UN agency reported earlier that more than 5,700 people have died from swine flu worldwide, with the total number of officially confirmed cases exceeding 440,000, as of October 25.

In its latest report, WHO said swine flu fatalities had been registered for the first time in Russia, Jordan, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Finland, Moldova, and the French overseas department of Guadalupe.

Five deaths from the H1N1 virus have been so far registered in Russia. Three fatalities were reported in the east Siberian city of Chita, one in Moscow, and another one in the Siberian Krasnoyarsk region. The total number of officially confirmed swine flu cases in the country has reached almost 1,900.
