ROME, November 1 (RIA Novosti) - Italian police have arrested one of Italy's most wanted and dangerous mafia bosses, local media reported on Sunday.
Pasquale Russo, 62 years old, a leading boss of the Camorra organized crime syndicate in southern Italy, was arrested Sunday morning in the vicinity of the city of Avellino, the local media reported.
One of the 10 most wanted mafia fugitives in Italy, Russo has been convicted to life imprisonment several times for Camorra association and numerous murders. He had been on the run since 1993, local media reported.
On Saturday, Italian police also arrested Russo's brother, 51-year-old Salvatore Russo, regarded as one of the 30 most dangerous criminals in Italy, who had been on the run since 1995, the media said.
Italian politicians welcomed the arrest of mafia bosses, calling it a major success in the fight against organized crime in the country.
Interior Minister Roberto Maroni said Italy's law-enforcement agencies had achieved "extraordinary success against the mafia and the Camorra," and would continue their fight to win in the war against all forms of organized crime.
