U.S. President Barack Obama believes that the conclusion of the Lisbon Treaty would make the United States and Europe much stronger partners.

WASHINGTON, November 4 (RIA Novosti) - U.S. President Barack Obama believes that the conclusion of the Lisbon Treaty would make the United States and Europe much stronger partners.

Obama received on Tuesday in Washington Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

"I congratulated them on the conclusion of the Lisbon Treaty, which will further move Europe in the direction of integration not only on economic policy but also on a number of security issues. I believe that a strengthened and renewed EU will be an even better transatlantic partner with the United States," Obama told a press briefing following the meeting with the high-ranking European officials.

Czech President Vaclav Klaus signed the EU's Lisbon Treaty on Tuesday after the country's Constitutional Court ruled that the ambitious reform treaty was in line with the Czech Constitution.

The agreement was drafted in the Portuguese capital on December 13, 2007, and introduces fundamental changes to the workings of the European Union. With the Czech president's signature, it has now been ratified by all 27 EU member states.
