SINGAPORE, November 15 (RIA Novosti) - Asia-Pacific leaders agreed on Sunday that it was unlikely they would sign a legally binding document at December climate change talks in Copenhagen, a Russian presidential aide said on Sunday.

"The talks on a new climate change agreement to replace the existing Kyoto protocol have had little progress," Arkady Dvorkovich said after a breakfast meeting of leaders at an Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Singapore.

"The leaders announced, though, that they were ready to sign a political agreement aimed at giving an impetus to the negotiation process," the official said.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who addressed the APEC leaders at the end of the informal meeting on Sunday, spoke in favor of the proposed political deal, leaving legally binding decisions for later.

The goal of the Copenhagen talks on December 7-18 is to set new targets for cutting greenhouse gases, and to raise funds to help poor countries tackle effects of global warming.
