The Israeli Air Force delivered an airstrike on the Gaza Strip on Thursday destroying two tunnels used for smuggling on the border with Egypt and an armory shop, the Israeli Defense Forces' press service said.

According to preliminary information, three Gaza residents were wounded in the attack described by the Israeli authorities as "retaliatory."

A rocket was reported to have been launched from the Gaza Strip and hit Israeli soil on Wednesday. There were no reports of injuries or damage from the Palestinian-launched rocket.

The Israeli army said in a statement more than 750 rockets and mortars launched by Palestinians have landed in Israel's southern territories since the start of the year. More than one third of the projectiles were reportedly launched in response to Israel's three-week Cast Lead Operation, held in Gaza in December and January.

The intensity of Palestinian airstrikes has decreased four times compared to last year, the Israeli army said.

"The Israeli Defense Force will continue responding to any attempts [by Palestinians] to disrupt the peace in residential areas in the country's south," the statement said.

Underground tunnels provide the Gaza Strip, blockaded by Israel since Hamas took control of the enclave in 2007, with food, petrol and household appliances. They are also used for weapons smuggling.

Over 120 Palestinians have died in the tunnels in just over two years, according to local medical officials.

Cave-ins, gas used by Egyptian border guards, and Israeli airstrikes are the common causes of death.
