Georgian airline Airzena announced on Friday it has canceled its proposed charter flights to Moscow on December 26-27.

The airline earlier proposed creating 10 charter flights on December 26-30 and on January 6-10 and had already started selling tickets following talks between Georgia and Russia on a temporary resumption of a direct air link for the holiday season.

"Flights tomorrow and the day after tomorrow have been cancelled. As to the following dates, we still do not have any information. Passengers who bought the tickets can get a refund," a sales clerk told RIA Novosti.

Former Georgian prime minister Zurab Nogaideli said on Friday after a series of meetings with Russian officials in Moscow that the talks on resuming direct air links between the two countries had resulted in failure.

"Our discussions on the possible resumption of air links resulted in failure at this point due to the destruction of a WWII memorial in Georgia on December 19," Nogaideli said after returning to Tbilisi.

Direct flights between Tbilisi and Moscow were suspended in 2006 following a spy row between the former Soviet allies. They resumed for a short time in 2008 and were halted again after last August's war between Georgia and Russia over South Ossetia.
