U.S. President Barack Obama named ten charity organizations which would benefit from the $1.4 million he received after winning the Nobel Peace Prize, U.S. media said on Friday.
The largest portion of $250,000 will go to Fisher House, a non-governmental organization which provides war veterans with houses close to military hospitals. The second largest sum of $200,000 will go to Bush-Clinton Haiti Fund, helping to deal with the aftermath of the devastating quake in Haiti.
Six funds which help students to get higher education will receive $125,000 each. Two organizations assisting regional development in Africa and Central Asia will each get $100,000.
Obama received the award on October 2009, less than a year after he took office. The Nobel Committee said it had chosen Obama for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."
