The Russian Embassy in Washington has said it will host over this weekend a children's theater festival featuring theatrical and ballet performances by Russian-speaking American kids.

Theater and ballet groups from Texas, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and Washington D.C. will take part in the event aimed at preserving the roots of the Russian language and culture in the United States.

The organizer of the event is the American Association of Russian Language, Culture and Education (AARCE), an independent, public organization based in Washington, D.C. that represents the Russian-speaking community of the United States of America.

"The festival has been organized for children from the families of our compatriots. We are all united by a common language and culture," the AARCE said.

"The aim of our festival is to preserve the Russian language through the theater, to ensure further consolidation of our [Russian] community and to strengthen the ties between the generations [of Russian immigrants], the organizer said.

According to the AARCE, the 3.5 million Russian-speaking Americans represent the second largest foreign-born ethnic community in the United States.

AARCE conducts a variety of programs to assist Russian-speaking people in the United States in order to provide them a means of personal growth, development of business opportunities and community involvement.
