Alcohol poisoning is considered the likely cause of death of a 33-year-old Russian female tourist in the Indian state of Goa, the Russian embassy said on Thursday.

The official cause of her death will be announced after an autopsy.

The woman arrived in Goa on a tourist visa six days ago and was supposed to return to Russia on March 24. Her body was found by police in her hotel room late on Wednesday.

According to official data, about 49,000 Russians visited Goa last year.
