A helicopter with Spanish Queen Sofia en route from Toledo to the capital of Madrid made an emergency landing due to technical problems, El Pais reported.
Representatives of the royal residence Zarzuela said the Super Puma helicopter suddenly lost altitude while it was taking off and made an immediate landing. The queen continued her trip by car and safely arrived at the palace in Madrid.
The Spanish defense ministry said the accident occurred due to a lack of power in one of the helicopter's engines. Although Super Puma helicopters can fly even with a single engine, the pilot decided not to risk the queen's safety.
Queen Sofia was accompanied by Spanish Health Minister Trinidad Jimenez. They both visited Toledo to give an award to a local hospital for its work in providing people with disabilities and helping the disabled integrate into society.
