Uzbekistan's special police force have confiscated more than 46 kilograms (over 100 pounds) of narcotics during a police operation, a spokesman for the Uzbek National Security Service said on Saturday.
The drug raid occurred in a residential home near the border with Tajikistan. During the search of a residential home, police found two bags stuffed with 43.4 kilograms of opium and 2.8 kilograms of heroin.
A local resident has been detained in connection with the drug seizure.
The former Soviet Central Asian states are major transit routes for drugs from Afghanistan destined for Russia and Europe. An estimated 90% of heroin consumed in Russia is trafficked from Afghanistan via Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
