Three car bombs exploded in the Iraqi capital on Sunday, killing at least 30 people and injuring more than 200 in coordinated attacks that security officials said targeted foreign diplomatic missions.

One of the morning blasts occurred near the Spanish and German embassies, which also slightly damaged the Ukrainian mission, another was close to the Iranian Embassy and a third left a deep crater next to the wall of the Egyptian Embassy.

Some reports say 35 people have died.

The Ukrainian Embassy said none of its staff were hurt in the attack. A senior security official at the Egyptian Embassy and an Iraqi guard at the German compound were reportedly among the dead.

A fourth car bomb was defused after the driver was stopped and arrested.

The bombings follow the deaths of at least 25 people in a village south of Baghdad on Saturday. Up to 15 gunmen in military uniforms attacked the village in the early morning.

The victims were reported to have been handcuffed and shot in the head.
