Russian President Dmitry Medvedev arrived on Tuesday in Denmark.
He was met by the Danish Queen Margrethe II, her spouse, Prince Consort Henri, and other members of the Royal family.
Medvedev will meet Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen on Wednesday.
One of the central issues for negotiations will be cooperation in energy and especially the Nord Stream project. A memorandum on cooperation in energy efficiency and renewable energy sources is also expected to be signed during Medvedev's visit.
The Nord Stream pipeline will eventually pump 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Western Europe and will go through the territorial waters and exclusive economic zones of Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
"I would like hearty, efficient and full-fledged relations with Denmark," Medvedev told the Danish Broadcasting Corporation before the trip.
