European integration will remain the top priority of Ukraine's foreign policy, but strategic partnership with Russia and the United States is also important, the country's president said on Tuesday.
Viktor Yanukovych submitted a draft law on the principles of domestic and foreign policy to the country's national security and defense council on Tuesday.
"The draft law clearly states the top priority of Ukraine's strategic European course. It is the basic vector of our development, which defines the essence of social changes and the principal course of our external and internal policy," the UNIAN news agency quoted Yanukovych as saying.
He added that it was necessary to "provide cooperation with European and Atlantic defense structures."
He also said that partnership with Russia and strategic relations with the United States were important.
"It is of crucial importance to strengthen relations with countries which have become new global centers of growth," Yanukovych added.
