China has protested to North Korea after three of its nationals were shot dead by a border guard, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Friday when a Chinese ship is reported to have illegally crossed the border with North Korea. Three people, from the Chinese city of Dandong, were killed and another one was injured.
"On the morning of June 4, residents of Dandong in the Liaoning province were shot at by a North Korean border guard who suspected them of crossing the border for trade activities, leaving three dead and one injured," he said
He added that China took the incident very seriously and an investigation was underway.
