The main contenders for the Polish presidency paid tribute on Thursday to late president Lech Kaczynski ahead of the June 20 presidential elections.

The Soviet-made presidential Tu-154 crashed near the city of Smolensk on April 10. All 96 people on board died, including President Lech Kaczynski, his wife and senior Polish officials.

Polish TV channel TVN24 said Poland's acting President and parliament speaker Bronislaw Komorowski visited Krakow's Wawel Cathedral, where Kaczynski was buried alongside Polish monarchs.

The twin brother of the late Polish president and leader of Poland's Law and Justice Party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, will visit Wawel Cathedral on June 18, the brothers' birthday.

According to the latest public opinion polls, 41% of the respondents would vote for Komorowski, while 29% are for Jaroslaw Kaczynski's candidacy.

If none of the 10 candidates receives more than 50% of the votes in the first round, a runoff will be held on July 4.
