Russia and the United States will sign several agreements and adopt a number of joint declarations during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to Washington, which will begin on Tuesday, a Kremlin aid has said.

"A large package of documents has been prepared for the visit - about 10 documents and declarations by the two presidents on various issues of cooperation," Sergei Prikhodko told reporters in Moscow.

The declarations expected to be adopted by Medvedev and his U.S. counterpart Barack Obama will include those dedicated to the improvement of openness in government activities, Russian-U.S. cooperation in the fight against terrorism and in the innovation sphere.

Medvedev and Obama are also expected to adopt a joint declaration on the situation in Kyrgyzstan, where clashes between ethnic Uzbeks and Kyrgyz are thought to have claimed the lives of up to 2,000 people earlier this month.

"We are currently working on a joint declaration concerning the situation in Kyrgyzstan. We want to demonstrate our concern in relation with the events that have taken place there, and we will support the coordinated international reaction by the UN, the OSCE, the SCO, as well as by neighboring states," Prikhodko said.

The international community has expressed concern over the situation in the Central Asian republic and urged the Kyrgyz authorities to take all measures possible to prevent further rioting, the worst inter-ethnic violence to hit the country in two decades.

Both Russia and the United States have military bases in northern Kyrgyzstan. The U.S. base at Manas Airport near the capital, Bishkek, is currently used as a transit center for supplying troops in Afghanistan.
