Russia's envoy to NATO Dmitry Rogozin has requested Russian military officials from NATO's Allied Command Europe to provide details about an attack by pirates on a German containership in the Gulf of Aden.
The Antigua-flagged Magellan Star vessel with 11 crew members on board was hijacked on Wednesday while on a return voyage from Indonesia. According to German news agency DPA, military ships patroling the area released the vessel on Thursday.
Russian online edition Maritime Bulletin reported earlier on Thursday that the crew members, including two Russians, locked themselves in one of the ship's compartments.
Rogozin neither confirmed nor denied the information that there were Russian citizens on board the vessel.
According to media reports, the ship's crew also includes six Filipinos, two Ukrainians, one Pole and one Bulgarian.
