Georgia will eventually become a member of NATO, the military alliance's secretary general, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, said on Friday in Tbilisi.

Georgia has long been pursuing NATO membership, but its bid was turned down due to pressure from Germany and France at a 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest. However, NATO has stated that the country will join at an unspecified date in the future.

"We pay significant attention to the cooperation between NATO and Georgia and are going to discuss ways of deepening these relations. The decision made at the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest remains in force - Georgia will become NATO member," Rasmussen told the Georgian parliament.

Rasmussen is in Georgia to meet with President Mikheil Saakashvili and discuss cooperation issues. He will also open a NATO office that Georgia says will serve as the alliance's embassy in the ex-Soviet state.

NATO seek to grant Georgia NATO membership to secure an independent supply of logistics for their long term Central Asia bases and presence. I would expect another Georgian/Russian war to occur before Georgia is granted NATO membership to prevent long term NATO bases being established in Central Asia. Regardless at some stage Pakistan will ask the foreigners in North Waziristan to leave, they will return home to places like Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, etc. So the militants in Chechnya, Ingushetia, Dagastan, will target the supply of logistics to help their militant brothers it will resemble the logistics lines in Pakistan.
