U.S. President Barack Obama thanked British Prime Minister David Cameron for cooperation, which helped to stop a terrorist plot to place explosive packages on U.S.-bound planes, the White House said on Saturday.

One of the packages was found on Friday on a United Parcel Service cargo plane at East Midlands Airport north of London, while the other was discovered at a FedEx facility in Dubai.

"The President spoke to British Prime Minister David Cameron this morning to discuss the terrorist plot that was disrupted yesterday at East Midlands Airport and in Dubai as a result of the close cooperation between the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as other international partners," the White House said in a statement.

"The President expressed his appreciation for the professionalism of American and British services involved in the joint effort to stop this plot. The President noted that [his counter-terrorism advisor] John Brennan has spoken regularly with his British counterpart, and will continue to do so as we work together to prevent and disrupt future efforts to attack our citizens," the White House said.

The attempt to send explosive-laden parcels from Yemen to Chicago synagogues was linked to an Al Qaeda cell.

Brennan said on Saturday that the United States will help Yemen fight against Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups.
