G20 leaders vowed on Friday to "spare no effort" to reach an agreement on climate change at the forthcoming climate talks in the Mexican city of Cancun.

"We reiterate our commitment to take strong and action-oriented measures and remain fully dedicated to UN climate change negotiations," the leaders said in a statement issued at the end of two-day talks in the South Korean city of Seoul.

At the summit on November 29-December 10 the G20 leaders will attempt to reach an binding agreement on curbing greenhouse gasses after 2012, when current emission reduction targets laid out in the Kioto Protocol expire.

The G20 leaders failed to reach an agreement at the last UN climate summit in December 2009, largely as a result of China's reluctance to agree to binding commitments.

China has consistently showed reluctance to committing to curbing greenhouse emissions, despite being the world's largest emitter, and clashed with the United States on the issue at a climate gathering in October.

In light of the disagreements, this year's summit aims to reach less ambitious goals than last year's. Deals on deforestation and technology transfers are expected to be met.

"We are committed to support country-led green growth policies that promote environmentally sustainable global growth along with employment creation while ensuring energy access for the poor," the leaders said on Friday.
