Russia's permanent representative to the UN condemned the actions of the Albanian authorities in Kosovo and NATO presence on the territory of the region at a Security Council meeting on Friday.

Russia's permanent representative to the UN condemned the actions of the Albanian authorities in Kosovo and NATO presence on the territory of the region at a Security Council meeting on Friday.

Vitaly Churkin said that while Russia supports the idea of resuming negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina to resolve the Kosovo issue, it considers "unacceptable" the unilateral actions of Pristina and the international presence in northern Kosovo.

Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said Belgrade is ready to resume talks, but that Serbia still does not accept the 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence either directly or indirectly.

Kosovo unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia on February 17, 2008.

The UN International Court of Justice ruled on July 22 that Kosovo's declaration of independence from Serbia did not violate general international law.

A total of 69 out of 192 UN member states have recognized Kosovo, which unilaterally proclaimed independence in February 2008. Serbia, Russia, China, India and some other countries have not recognized it, saying the declaration of independence violates international law.
