Vladimir Putin, Russia's action man prime minister, has had a 4,500-meter mountain named after him in the former Soviet state of Kyrgyzstan, officials said on Tuesday.

Mount Vladimir Putin is in the Tian Shan mountain range near the border with China.

The former KGB man has got his own mountain after a decision by Kyrgyz Prime Minister Almazbek Atambayev, his aide told RIA Novosti.

The country's parliament is yet to approve the new name.

Another summit with a famous moniker not far away is Mount Boris Yeltsin, named after Russia's first president in 2002.

Nearby also is Lenin Peak, which was renamed four years after the death of the first Soviet leader.
