An explosion at a Georgian military base killed three people and injured at least another 13, Georgian Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.
"The explosion of a 120-millimeter mortar shell is believed to have been caused by technical errors that occurred during an exercise. Three soldiers were killed and 13 wounded in the accident," the ministry said.
The explosion occurred at the Krtsanisi Training Center between the cities of Tbilisi and Rustavi. Gruziya Online news agency said the troops were being trained before deployment to Afghanistan.
The injured have been hospitalized in both cities.
An investigation into the explosion has been launched.
