Embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Sunday told the new cabinet to restore calm and stability, create new jobs and fight corruption, Egyptian television reported.

Anti-government protests continued for the sixth day on Sunday in Egypt. At least 150 people have been killed and about 4,000 injured in the riots, Al-Jazeera TV channel said. Mubarak, 82, has rejected calls from protesters to resign.

The president dismissed the previous cabinet early on Saturday. He then appointed former air force commander Ahmed Shafiq as the new premier.

Meanwhile, a few opposition groups asked opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei to form a national unity government.

The former IAEA chief and outspoken critic of Mubarak has joined thousands of protesters in Cairo to demand the authoritarian leader step down after 30 years of rule.
