Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Hezbollah against any attempt "to take Galilee."
Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah on Wednesday called for the movement's fighters to be ready for war on Israeli territory.
"I say to the fighters of the Islamic Resistance: Be ready. If a new war is imposed on Lebanon we may ask you to take Galilee, to free Galilee," Nasrallah said.
"Nasrallah announced that he can occupy the Galilee, but I have news for you, he can't," Netanyahu said in Jerusalem.
In the more than four years since the Israeli-Hezbollah war of 2006, northern Israel has seen several rocket attacks by Lebanese-based terrorist organizations.
