The youngest son of former Chechen separatist leader Dzhokhar Dudayev has been arrested in Lithuania for forging documents, local media reported on Tuesday.

Degi Dudayev, 27, who has Lithuanian residency, was stopped in his Audi A6 by customs police on a highway in the Baltic country on Wednesday. The officials confiscated seven false Lithuanian passports.

Until Tuesday, it was only known that the man arrested was a citizen of Georgia.

Also on Wednesday, police arrested four men in the Lithuanian city of Kaunas after document forging equipment, passport data and debit cards were found in their homes.

All of the men, including Dudayev, were held in custody for two days before being released on bail. Dudayev's documents are being held by the police.

Dzhokhar Dudayev became president of the newly declared Chechen Republic in October 1991 and declared independence from the Russian Federation the following month. He was killed in 1996 by a Russian-fired precision-guided bomb. His widow and remaining family live in Vilnius.
