Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has refused to sign a power transition plan which would see his resignation within 30 days, a source in Yemen's opposition said on Saturday.

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has refused to sign a power transition plan which would see his resignation within 30 days, a source in Yemen's opposition said on Saturday.

Saleh, who has ruled Yemen for more than three decades, voiced his readiness to accept the transition plan last week, during a rally of his supporters.

On Tuesday he agreed to meet with the secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Abdullatif Al-Zayani to sign the GCC-backed deal that gives Saleh an immune to prosecution and urges him to resign within 30 days.

"He refused to sign the power transition deal. The secretary general returns to Riyadh," the source said.

The opposition coalition also welcomed the GCC plan, but refused to take part in the national unity government and criticized the plan for making Saleh and his relatives immune to prosecution.

Protests inspired by popular uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt broke out in Yemen in early February. According to western media reports, at least 120 people have been killed in clashes between protesters and government troops.
