Polish Prosecutor Mark Pasionek is being probed over allegations that he handed secret information about a plane crash that killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski to the United States, Poland's tvn24 news channel said on Friday.

Pasionek has been dropped from an investigative committee probing the crash near the west Russian city of Smolensk in April last year that killed 97 people, mainly government officials.

The presidential delegation was flying to Smolensk to mark the 70th anniversary of the 1940 Katyn massacre of thousands of Polish officers by Soviet secret police. The plane is believed to have crashed after trying to land in thick fog.

The Russia-based Interstate Aviation Committee, along with leading flight safety experts, laid the blame for the crash on the Polish crew. Polish politicians denounced the report, saying it was one-sided or a cover-up.
