Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh left hospital on Saturday, more than two months after being wounded in a bomb attack on his residence in Sanaa, but will remain in Riyadh, a Saudi government source said.

"The Yemeni president left the hospital at 9:00 pm (18:00 GMT)," the source said. "Ali Abdullah Saleh will remain in Riyadh for a recovery period."

Saleh was wounded in early June in a rocket attack that hit a mosque in his compound in Sanaa while the president and top Yemeni officials were praying there.

Yemeni Prime Minister Ali Mohammed Mujawar, who was also injured in the attack, left hospital earlier on Saturday.

Saleh suffered burns on 40 percent of his body in the attack. His doctors have said the president's recovery would take from three to six month, according to sources close to Saleh. He is said to have undergone plastic surgery.

Saleh's 33-year rule has been challenged by a nationwide popular uprising since Febuary. Yemeni opposition leaders said in late July that they would not negotiate peace with the president unless he signs a deal brokered by the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council to leave office early.

Saleh and the opposition have been haggled over details of the deal, which stipulates Saleh's resignation in exchange for immunity from prosecution for him and his family, since mid-April.

On Thursday, the Arabic-language Elaph news portal quoted a high-ranking official in the Yemeni governing party, the General People's Congress, as saying that Saleh was going to stay in power until early elections that would take place before his term ends in 2013, while delegating some of his powers to the vice-president.
