A U.S. missile strike has killed an al-Qaeda-linked Pakistani militant commander near the Afghan border, Pakistani TV channels reported on Sunday referring to intelligence officials.

The commander, Haleem Ullah, was killed along with two other militants in a U.S. missile strike in South Waziristan on Friday.

Ullah led a group of militants in the tribal region closely connected to al-Qaeda. The group coordinated cross-border operations with Al-Qaeda commanders against the U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, the local TV channels said.

The North and South Waziristan tribal regions on the Afghan border, known to be the strongholds of al-Qaeda and Taliban militants, are regular targets of U.S. drones.
