The U.S. State Department on Thursday established the Office of the Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights.
Maria Otero, under secretary for civilian security, democracy, and human rights, will lead the office.
The State Department is undergoing reorganization, establishing specialized offices involved in activities important for the United States.
The Bureau of Counterterrorism was established on January 4. It will be coordinated by Coordinator Daniel Benjamin.
The reorganization is carried out in line with the Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review, a study by the State Department.
