A probe into the case of two jail officers possibly involved in the death of Hermitage Capital lawyer Sergei Magnitsky has been completed, Investigations Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said on Tuesday.
The investigation into Magnitsky’s death has been extended until April 24, he added.
“According to the investigation, the [prison] doctor ignored Magnitsky’s repeated complaints about his health, refused to conduct diagnostics procedure and failed to prescribe the necessary treatment,” Markin said.
The prison deputy chief for medical services failed to ensure proper supervision of medical personnel and also ignored the patient’s complaints, he said.
“As a result, Magnitsky died of cardiac failure,” Markin said.
Magnitsky was arrested and jailed without trial in November 2008 and died in police custody a year later after being denied medical care. The 37-year-old auditor had accused tax and police officials of carrying out a tax scam that netted them $230 million.
