Iranian schoolchildren will have a chance to study Russian as a second foreign language, along with German, Italian, Spanish and French, the Fars news agency reported, quoting a senior Iranian Education Ministry official.
Of the five foreign languages planned to be introduced in addition to English, which is mandatory at Iranian schools, pupils will have to choose one to study beginning from 6th grade, Secretary of the Supreme Board of Education of Iran Mehdi Navid was quoted as saying.
"In those provinces of the country where a particular foreign language is needed more, it will be emphasized," Navid said.
