Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office on Saturday said that on its request France has seized property belonging to London-based tycoon Boris Berezovsky worth 13 billion euros.
Moscow accuses Berezovsky of embezzling $2 billion from two major state companies, Sovkomflot and Novoship in the 1990s. Prosecutors did not say which assets were seized.
Reports that French authorities have seized two yachts belonging to the self-exiled tycoon emerged in 2011. The yachts (worth about $20 million) were docked in the south of the country not far from Berezovsky’s estate, which had been seized earlier. Later France overturned this decision.
Russia has issued multiple warrants for Berezovsky's arrest and has repeatedly demanded his extradition from Britain, where he was granted political asylum in 2000.
