The mayor of the Moldovan capital Chisinau has proposed recruiting Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili to take up the Moldovan presidency once his term in his current post expires, the REGNUM news agency reported on Tuesday.
"Let him come to Moldova," Dorin Chirtoaca, who is also deputy chairman of the Liberal Party, said at an anti-corruption meeting.
"He will have two terms and I’m sure the situation in the country will change; corruption will disappear, we will get investments and in general there will be order,” Chirtoaca said, listing the signature achievements of Saakashvili's presidency in Georgia.
Georgian presidential elections are scheduled for autumn 2013.
Under the Moldovan constitution, a presidential candidate must be a citizen with the right to vote and not younger than 40 years old who lives or has lived in Moldova not less than 10 years and who speaks the state language, Moldovan.
Nicolae Timofti was elected Moldova’s fourth president in spring 2012.
