The Syrian television and radio building in Damascus has been rocked by a powerful bomb blast, local television reported on Monday.

According to the Suriya TV channel, an improvised explosive device went off on the third floor of the central Damascus building, injuring a number of people. The office of the Syrian Information Minister is located in the same building.

Information Minister Omran al-Zoabi said that the bomb on the third floor of the building caused severe damage, but only led to "minor injuries" to several people. No deaths were reported in the blast, and state television put the number of wounded at three.

"It is clear that the blast was caused by an explosive device," AlJazeera quoted Zoabi as saying. "Several of our colleagues were injured, but there were no serious injuries, and no dead."

"We know who is behind this cowardly, desperate and deplorable act," he added, pointing the figure at an armed rebel opposition movement that has purportedly carried out similar attacks in the capital in the past.

"Nothing will stop the voice of Syria," Zoabi said.

The blast comes a day after militants attacked the TV and radio building in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo. They managed to take partial control of the building but later withdrew.

The Syrian conflict has claimed 14,000-20,000 lives since March 2011, according to estimates by various opposition groups and the UN. The West is pushing for Assad’s ouster, while Russia and China are trying to prevent outside interference in the country, claiming the Assad regime and the opposition are both to blame for the bloodshed.
