Turkmenistan’s residents are celebrating Melon Day on Sunday.
Melon Day is a holiday marked in the Central Asian country annually on the second Sunday of August.
Conferences of melon growers, art exhibitions, fairs, competitions, concerts and theatrical performances are held across the former Soviet republic on the holiday’s occasion.
Melons and watermelons will be given to visitors at festive events for free.
The national holiday was introduced in 1994 by Turkmenistan’s then President Saparmurat Niyazov, who loved melons.
