A fire that broke out at Venezuela’s Amuay oil refinery, one of the world’s largest, has spread on the third fuel tanker, a Venezuelan vice president said.

A deadly blast on Saturday morning ripped through the oil refinery in Falcon state, in the country’s north, setting two giant fuel tankers alight. The explosion killed at least 48 and injured over 80 people.

“We have enough of foam. We are spreading it. The third tanker, however, has just caught the fire,” Vice President Elias Jaua wrote in his Twitter account.

President Hugo Chavez has declared three days of mourning after the blast and ordered a thorough investigation into the accident.

According to officials, a gas leak may be one of the possible reasons for the blast at the refinery, which processes some 645,000 barrels of crude per day.
