Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi did not discuss possible military intervention in Syria with Turkey's leadership, presidential spokesman Yasser Ali said on Tuesday.

“During his short visit to Ankara on Monday, Mursi did not discuss with the Turkish leadership the possibility of military interference in the Syrian interior conflict,” Ali told journalists.

Egypt’s presidential aide Seif Abdel-Fattah had earlier said that Egypt was considering Qatar’s proposal concerning potential military intervention in Syria, in order to end the ongoing conflict in the country.

“The information on the negotiations on this issue is not true,” Ali said adding that Abdel-Fattah’s statement only shows his personal opinion and does not represent Egypt's official stance.

He also said that “the president of Egypt stands for the political settlement of the conflict in Syria and believes that military actions only worsen the crisis and not serve its resolution.”

Last Tuesday, addressing the UN General Assembly session in New York, the emir of Qatar called for Arab countries' military intervention in Syria.

The Syrian conflict has claimed up to 20,000 lives according to estimates by various Syrian opposition groups. The UN estimates the death toll at over 18,000 people. The Syrian authorities say that 8,000 have been killed.
