WASHINGTON, December 31 (RIA Novosti) - US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was hospitalized in New York on Sunday after doctors discovered a blood clot, CNN reported.
The blood clot was discovered during a follow-up medical examination concerning Clinton’s concussion that she suffered in mid-December after fainting.
CNN cited Philippe Reines, a deputy assistant secretary of state, as saying that Clinton would remain in New York Presbyterian Hospital for the next 48 hours under constant attention of doctors, who treat her with anti-coagulants.
“Her doctors will continue to assess her condition, including other issues associated with her concussion. They will determine if any further action is required,” Reines said, but did not specify where the clot was discovered.
The 65-year-old politician suffered from a stomach infection and lost consciousness due to dehydration earlier in the month. She felt down, when she fainted, and sustained a concussion as a result.
Clinton, seen by many as a possible Democratic nominee in the 2016 presidential election, said earlier this year she planned to step down at the conclusion of Obama’s first term as president.
