MOSCOW, January 2 (RIA Novosti) - Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty President and CEO Stephen Korn said in a statement on Tuesday he resigns “solely for personal reasons” starting from January 25.

In the past months, the US Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) whose members are also members of the RFE/RL Board of Directors, have repeatedly criticized Korn for poor management of the Radio Liberty Russian service.

However, Korn said he decided to resign to reunite with his family members who were “unable to move to Prague [where Korn worked at the RFE/RL headquarters] for a variety of reasons.”

On November 10, Radio Liberty ended its MW broadcasts in Moscow, the only Russian city where it had a broadcasting license.

RFE/RL has 23 services broadcasting in 28 languages in 21 countries of Eastern Europe, Caucasus, Central Asia and Middle East.
