Workers Trapped in China Metro Tunnel Collapse

BEIJING, January 2 (RIA Novosti) – A metro tunnel under construction collapsed in the southern Chinese city of Nanning, trapping an unknown number of workers, Xinhua news agency reported on Wednesday.

The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the tunnel under Minzu Avenue in the administrative center of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Firefighters pulled out one worker from the site and sent him to hospital.

The search for other workers is continuing.

On Monday evening, five people were killed and another 18 injured after scaffolds collapsed at a parking lot being built for a new Shanghai subway line.
