CAIRO, January 2 (RIA Novosti) – Egypt’s opposition coalition officially announced on Wednesday it is planning to run on a single joint list in an effort to win majority in the lower house of parliament.
“The Front officially says it will participate in the election to the new parliament on a single list, which will include representatives of all opposition forces of the National Salvation Front,” Egypt’s main opposition group said in a statement.
An election committee which will form a single list of candidates has been set up, it said.
The National Salvation Front, uniting the largest liberal-democratic parties and movements, was formed to defeat Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi's November 22 constitutional declaration.
The draft constitution was approved by more than 60 percent of voters at a referendum in late December. The Front denounced the referendum results, citing “fraud and violations.”
The date of elections to the lower house of the Egyptian parliament, the House of Representatives, is to be announced within two months since the approval of the constitution, until late February 2013.
