MOSCOW, January 3 (RIA Novosti) - A total of 211 protected birds - blue-fronted Amazon parrots - taken from Paraguay’s remote forests have been rescued as police made four arrests, British media reported.
The Sky News satellite television news broadcaster on Wednesday quoted Paraguayan environmental ministry veterinarian Carlos Britos as saying many parrots were still juveniles seized from their nests.
Britos said government biologists are looking after the birds in a national park, and added that they will be brought back to the wild once they can fly.
Blue-fronted Amazons are commonly kept as house pets. However, Paraguayan laws stipulate up to eight years of imprisonment for theft of wild animals or plants.

The growing outright rivalry between the United States and China gives Russia more foreign policy weight, enabling it to assume the role of a balancer. So far it has been doing so rather skillfully. Today it may participate in a joint naval exercise with China that Beijing positions as outwardly anti-American. But tomorrow it can team up with the naval forces of the Old World.
