HAVANA, January 3 (RIA Novosti) – Venezuela’s opposition leader Antonio Ledezma said a special delegation should be sent to visit President Hugo Chavez in Cuba to get first-hand information of his health.
“I’m not asking for a permission to travel to Cuba. I think that we have a right to go there as soon as possible,” Ledezma told reporters on Thursday. “Enough with mysteries, Venezuela is not a colony of Cuba,” he said.
Ledezma said that the delegation should include opposition governors Henrique Capriles and Henri Falcоn, several parliamentarians and prominent doctors.
Venezuela’s opposition has been calling for more information on the health of Chavez amid growing rumors of his deteriorating condition.
Chavez, 58, who has ruled Venezuela for 13 years, underwent four operations for cancer and four courses of chemotherapy in Cuba and Venezuela within a year. He underwent his fourth surgery to remove cancerous tissue in Cuba on December 11.
He is scheduled to be inaugurated to a new six-year presidential term on January 10, 2013, but it might be postponed due to the president’s health problems.
